This week’s Spotlight Agent is Don Decker. Don has been with Loss Realty Group for 6 years. Servicing all areas of our local MLS, Don is available to assist you in any of your real estate buying and selling transactions. Learn a little more about Don in this weeks Agent Spotlight Q & A:

Q-What do you like best about working in Real Estate?

A-I think the most rewarding part of being a real estate agent is working with young,first-time buyers. It’s a challenge to keep them focused on what they can actually afford versus what they would like to buy, but with enough time,most of them will get to the place where they understand that there are a lot more costs to owning a home than just paying a mortgage. Generally,first-time buyers are excited and once you have found that “just right” home for them they are very appreciative.

Q-What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in the business?

A-Being patient with buyers who want to see “just one more house before they make a decision” or buyers who think,in spite of your research and advice,that their ridiculously low offer for a house will be accepted.

Q-What advice would you give someone who is thinking about venturing into Real Estate?

A-Like any job, the success and rewards that you get from being in real estate is going to be commensurate with the amount of time and effort that you put into the job. If real estate is going to be your vocation,and not an avocation,you will need to understand that you will be working much of the time on someone else’s schedule rather than your schedule and you not be getting paid for much of the time that you spend on the job.

Q-Do you have any advice for First Time Home Buyers?

A-Very simply; before you start looking for a house you need to know what you can afford and then you need to have the will power to not exceed that number regardless of how good a deal you find or how much you would like to buy a certain house that isn’t affordable.

Q-When are working, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A-During the “season” I like to play golf or practice golf and since Ilive on a golf course,this is easy to do. In the “off season” I enjoy spending time at the local casino except there are times when it isn’t all that enjoyable.

Q-What’s your favorite part of this area and why?

A-From April through October,this area has a very favorable climate and there are any number of activities that a person can enjoy. During the course of my earlier life when I worked for Dana Corporation,I and my family moved to the Toledo 3 different times and the last time was in 1981. We thought that Northwest Ohio was a great place to live and raise a family and have considered this area as our “home” for over 35 years.

Q-What do you considered the area’s best kept secret?

A-That’s easy;the people of Toledo and surround areas. For the most part,they are very decent people, very generous people and very welcoming people.

Q-Is there anything you’d like your clients to know about you?

A-I would like to think that my clients believe that I will put their best interests above trying to make a sale. If they believe that,then everything else should take care of itself.
